Revolt of the Zombies
(1936)
A tepid follow-up to White Zombie, Revolt has Dean Jagger discovering the secret of turning men into zombies, from the "robot army" that built the city of Angkor. Most scenes are static and dialogue heavy, and the story is plodding. There is hardly anything here of interest, even to a cinematic archaeologist, much less seekers of late-night diversion. You might be tempted to excuse this one as an artifact of 1930s cinema. But 1936 was a fair ways into the sound era, and saw the release…

Woods of Terror: A Zombie Horror Cult Classic
(2009)
Woods of Terror is a double bill of horror containing 'Nightmare in the Woods' & 'Zombie Village'. Nightmare in the Woods tells the story of three youths who decide to go deep into the woods to get high and tell silly horror stories to scare each other, but the story of the crazed killer stalking and killing young loving couples is true, and one by one he is coming to them to cut chop and decapitate!Zombie Village is a true exploitation classic. It was the film that started all of Jason Impey's…
Monster Island: A Zombie Novel
It's one month after a global disaster. The most "developed" nations of the world have fallen to the shambling zombie masses. Only a few pockets of humanity survive — in places rife with high-powered weaponry, such as Somalia. In New York City, the dead walk the streets, driven by an insatiable hunger for all things living. One amongst them is different; though he shares their appetites he has retained his human intelligence. Alone among the mindless zombies, Gary Fleck is an…

Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness
(1992)
Army of Darkness is the final entry to the Evil Dead trilogy. The Evil Dead trilogy is another of my all time favorites even though they had an extremely tight budget with each horror movie. This masterpiece is from the director of the Spider-Man franchise Sam Raimi and B-movie king Bruce Campbell plays Ash, the great zombie killing/bashing hero. This one took the cake. I loved Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness' horror mixed with a gothic castlevania setting. The Evil Dead…
House by the Cemetery
(2003)
This is the last Fulci film I ever saw, and it will be the last I'll ever rent. Fulci had a sort of renaissance in the 1990's, and I decided to see what all the fuss was about. Directors like Quentin Tarantino (who re-released The Beyond to theaters) and Eli Roth have raved about his work. So I wanted to see the man's work. I watched a ton of his work, and the only film I really liked was Zombie. Zombie is a good film, but it pales in comparison to great horror filmmakers' best…

Fright Night: Night of the Living Dead/House on Haunted Hill
(2005)
Two classic horror movies combine on this collection. NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: George Romero's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is a low-budget, homegrown classic that had great difficulty finding a distributor at the time of its 1968 release, but has since become one of the most influential horror films of all time. Aside from its visceral impact years before realistic gore became the fashion, the film is also important for its portrayal of a black man as the protagonist during a time when race relations…

Shadows of the Dead
(2004)
I remember seeing this movie and it was awful. I felt there was no action, no plot. We called it Zombies in Love. I will give it a couple of points for decent make up and special effects. But mostly, it was BORING. Just could not get into it. Zombie movies should not be LOVE stories.
