The Grudge is a very good and twisted movie. The Japanese believe that if there is a lot of anger and rage at the time of death, the spirit that died curses the establishment that it died in. The death is then repeated on living inhabitants/visitors thus continuing the cycle. I have seen a lot of horror movies and this is one of the few that actually managed to freak me out.
