Review of Ghostbusters (Widescreen Edition)

  • A trio of university parasychologists lose their research grant and decide to open their own business "Ghostbusters" and almost at once are summoned to investigate the strange happenings in a Central Park West apartment. What they discover is that all Manhattan is being besieged by other worldly demons.System Requirements:Run Time: 105 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: COMEDY Rating: PG UPC: 043396141223 Manufacturer No: 14122
    Product Description
  • Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis wrote the script, but Bill Murray gets all the best lines and moments in this 1984 comedy directed by Ivan Reitman (Meatballs). The three comics, plus Ernie Hudson, play the New York City-based team that provides supernatural pest control, and Sigourney Weaver is the love interest possessed by an ancient demon. Reitman and company are full of original ideas about hobgoblins--who knew they could "slime" people with green plasma goo?--but hovering above the plot is Murray's patented ironic view of all the action. Still a lot of fun, and an obvious model for sci-fi comedies such as Men in Black. --Tom Keogh

    Ghostbusters

My 5 & 3 year old boys LOVED it, and now want to be Ghostbusters for Halloween. I wasn't sure they would like it as much as I did as a high schooler in the 80's....EXCELLENT!

"I know exactly what to do.On three. One, two, three...GET HER!"

Join Harold Ramis, Dan Akroyd, Ivan Reitman and Bill Murry in the all time 1984 classic Ghost Busters! I saw this film what seems like eons ago in the theater and it is as funny to watch today as it was then. Three university scientists get kicked off of campus to do what Dr. Vankman believes they were meant to do, "go into business for ourselves". So begins the birth of Ghost Busters, the only paranormal exterminators in the state of New York, let alone the entire nation. The sultry Sigourney Weaver also makes her presence as the women having ghoulie ghost problems in her apartment refridgerator and the ghost readings they get in the city of New York only spell disaster. A little run in with an uptight EPA rep and the world coming to an end, the city of New York call on the only ones left they think can save them. An all out epic battle with a resurrected god in the form of the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man wreck havoc on downtown Manhattan. The climatic ending complete with laughs and the best FX of the day makes Ghost Busters a fun filled film for the entire family. Don't hesitate, this is a film that all can enjoy for years, don't pass up a winner like this one. I promise you won't regret it.

    Where's part three???

    I love this movie!!!!!!!!
I love Halloween and ghosts, so of course I knew I'd like this move.
Spooky and fun without any being your typical horror gross fest.
Ghostbusters has a great story, great acting, and excellent directing.
What's not to like about this move?
It's fun, lighthearted, funny and is one movie I never tire of seeing.
It would be nice after all these years if they'd FINALLY make part three.
With the FX available now, I'd love to see what modern filmmakers would do with the franchise.
    Highly recommended.

    What did I expect...

I remembered watching this in a theatre.

I didn't remember all the 'spirit' issues that they deal with. Not what we need in this home!

If there's something strange in your neighborhood, who ya gonna call?

Ghostbusters! Directed by Ivan Reitman of Meatballs Starring Dr. Spengler (Harold Ramis) Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) Co-starring Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) Janine Melnitz (Annie Potts) Louis Tully (Rick Moranis) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) is about four parapsychologists trying to rid New York of ... you guessed it, ghosts. This single movie produced some of the most used references today. And one of the most recognizable icons of the mid-eighties ... Slimer, A green blob ghost. This movie is quite charming and funny. The movie starts with three out-of-work scientists who form Ghostbusters in an abandoned fire station. From there they catch ghosts in hotels, subway stations, and a host of other locations. All leading up to a battle with Gozer (Slavitza Jovan). Gozer offers the Ghostbusters a choice: to choose the form of their doom. After clearing their minds, Ray thinks of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. This has become another icon created by this movie. Realizing their proton packs won't stop him, they decide to "cross the streams" I'll end my description there, but don't let my score of 3-stars fool you, this is an iconic movie that everyone will enjoy. But compared to some of the other movies released at that time, it could only earn a three. And if you've watched Ghostbusters, you'd might want to watch Ghostbusters II Ghostbusters 2 (Widescreen Edition)
