The Signal (2014) Sci-Fi Movie Review
Sci-Fi movies Review
The Signal (2014) is a low budget (4 million budget), independent science fiction movie that began filming on May 9, 2013. The majority of the thriller movie was filmed in Albuquerque, Los Lunas and Taos, Mexico. This is the second movie William Eubank (Love) directed. William has potential as an amazing director with his unique directing and cinematography skills.
Nic (Brenton Thwaites - Oculus, Maleficent, Blue Lagoon: The Awakening) first appears to be a strong fit muscular guy who goes around on crutches, but we later learn that he has a rapid debilitating physical condition. Nic and his best friend Jonah (Beau Knapp - Super 8, No One Lives, What Lola Wants) are traveling with Nic’s girlfriend Haley (Olivia Cooke - Bates Motel, The Quiet Ones, Ouija) to her new college in California.
The Signal is about three MIT students that search/pursue for a computer hacker that calls himself Nomad. He hacked into computers and caused multi-server meltdowns amongst other stuff that made Nic and Jonah furious, annoyed and jealous. Nic and Joan persuaded Haley into making a detour on their road trip to find the Nomad. The MIT students search the desert in Nevada and found a deserted structure/place. Nic and Jonah search the deteriorated dilapidated structure/place and found some new servers in the basement - it is weird for an old abandoned place - why didn’t the guys know something was up? Haley did not accompany the boys into the abandoned structure.
Nic awakens disoriented with no memories of what happened previously in a clean room filled with men wearing biohazard suits/space suits. Haley is in a state-like coma and Jonah is held in a cell. Nic is asked a series of question by Damon (Laurence Fishburne - The Matrix, Mystic River, Apocalypse Now) and learns that he might have been exposed to a Extraterrestrial Biological Entity. Damon wants to know how Nic and his friends found “the signal” and how they know about it. I do not want to spoil the entire movie so, please watch the movie if you would like to find out more. I did have a lot of questions about the movie during and after watching this movie. I would recommend this movie.
Synopsis:On a road trip, Nic and two friends are drawn to an isolated area by a computer genius. When everything suddenly goes dark, Nic regains consciousness - only to find himself in a waking nightmare. |
