Descent (2005)

hi everyone. This is my first review so it probably wont be a superb one, but ill do my best. First of all this is my personal view, so feel free to disagree. I think that this movie is great. The story is not the most original one and I had my doubts when I first saw the movie but when the credits appeared I just said UAU !
The main story is simple. 8 chicks (7 of them long time friends plus a crazy English chick) go explore a cave but the most cool character in the movie, Juno, takes off to the wrong one, an unexplored cave. And surprise, surprise (no one was expecting this :P) there are lots of weird beasts (some kind of humanoids) that are truly hungry and start to hunt the explorers. But there are some secondary points on the movie. In the beginning is so damn obvious that is something going on between Juno and her best friend Sarah’s husband and this is going to be a very important point in the end of the movie.
As for the scenes in the movie, there is the one where Sarah’s family dies. I honestly wasnt expecting it. I had to admit that, the next scene, the hospital lights one, was very cliche. But the scene were Sarah is at the window and the steel bar hits her, was way cool. I mean anyone could tell that something was going to happen but I don’t think that a steel bar was what ppl expected. Simple but effective. Also the scene were Sarah comes out of the blood pool, awesome.
I have to say, I loved the juno’s character. First of all she was totally hot, which is always a plus in a movie ;). and she makes this bad girl expressions that are really cool.. then she really knows how to fight. She really kicks the humanoids asses. But well, this is a very personal opinion.
Already inside the Cave, the director plays with the lights and the shadows. It worked out very well. He also plays with the effects of being inside a very dark and confined place. Like the scene were Sarah is trapped in that hole.. jeeze that was freaky. Of course that paranoia starts to kick in and the result aint pretty… A funny aspect was the fact that the beasts were all males and the only one that was female was the hardest to kill… small detail but clearly shows that this movies is focusing on women.
Well Im not going to talk about the end of the movie (i dont wanna spoil it but i liked it.. It fitted perfectly in the movie.. .Bottom line this is a must see movie….
