I saw the film too at the Mission Valley Cinema...we came from NY so I was expecting a movie to be worth my trip! The movie was fucken incredible. I am not the most loyal horror fan out there, but after seeing this I am sold. I do not have a background in film, so I will attempt to use my own words to describe Mental Scars.
The pluses
outstanding killer( Richard Myles)
outstanding score( dark, scary, and 100% atmospheric)
the picture quality was so beautiful that I had to remind myself this is a low budget horror film
shot on 35mm, 5.1 sound surround was of the highest order
the story was very well developed
great twist at end
loved dedra and kennedy
awesome special fx
minuses
some of the construction workers were not great actors
some sounds were not in sync(maybe a glitch)
i did not want it to end :(
Richard is sooooo talented, not only did he scare me shitless, but his equally talented music was deep, dark, and wicked, but beautiful at the same time which sounds weird saying that, but thats how I feel.
My movie grade for Mental Scars is a strong B+
Saw the flick in March 2009. It was very good. I loved the style to it, the killer, the sound effects were impressive and the music was great....
Did not like some of the cast...not very good actors...such as the junyyard workers, some cliche scenes. Overall, I loved it, scary, and fun, what more can you ask for, and it looked too good to be independent!
OMG, we just saw Mental Scars tonight at exactly 9:07pm eastern standard here in NYC. FUCKEN incredible independent film...the producers did a really good job...it kept our interest all the way through...the killer was a brilliant creation...very scary, dark, and sinister...I am part Native American, and i feel like revenge was achieved here. The story was very real, and the killer can be my body guard anytime lol.
The music was very dark, and it fit this film well. The director, producers, editors, and music people all deserve a round of applause...seriously...we r going to watch it again!
Give this flick 9 out of 10!
Yes...the movie Mental Scars was awesome...you guys really did a VERY good job. That snoody bitch Dedre was really good, I liked her acting...very fun to watch. The killer was off the chain...shit those close ups...made me turn my head. Its about time someone was true to the genre and the 80s style..
Kudos to the people at Mental Scars...next time do not cast the construction worker with the red shirt---he was not a good actor, but all the other strengths of the film make you forget about that idiot!
8/10 is my rating!
Very good and scary, confusing story, but who cares it scared the shit out of me lol! I know there will be Mental Scars 2...cannot wait. I can play Dedra..I can be a real bitch...thats easy for me!
