Berserk is one of my all time favorite anime. Berserk is originally sprung from a manga (Japanese comic book) which has an unlikely hero similar to that of Devil May Cry's Dante. Gutz is a phenomenal character with a rough childhood. Gutz's mother dies while giving birth to Gutz. His father is the leader of a mercenary group. He constantly pushes Gutz to fight hopes of him dying and always neglects and ill treats him.

The anime starts off with what seems to be the last episode, giving you just a taste of things to come. Gutz takes out some soldiers with his enormous sword. Then he progresses to fighting a boss-like figure that resembles a snake-humanoid. Amazed yet, you haven't even started the Gutz story yet.

The Berserk saga even spun off a Playstation (PS1) game that didn't do the anime justice but was still awesome. Gutz fights in armies, takes down unbelievable monsters and even witnesses virtual insanity. He becomes a raiding party general under the leadership of Griffith, The White Hawk. For some time it is unclear if you are following Gutz or Griffith but it is awe so great. Berserk is a definite must see even if you don't like anime because the story is so great. You may even become a Berserk fanatic like me.
