13 Tzameti:Twenty-two-year-old Sebastien (Georges Babluani) leads an impoverished life with his immigrant family constantly struggling to support them. While repairing the roof of a neighbor’s house, he overhears a conversation about an expected package which promises to make the household rich. Sensing the opportunity of a lifetime, Sebastien intercepts the package which contains a series of specific instructions. Following the clues, he assumes a false identity and manages to slip through the grasp of the enclosing police as he ventures deeper and deeper into the countryside. The closer he gets to his destination and the more people he meets along the way, the less he understands about what he is looking for. Ultimately, he comes face to face with a ring of clandestine gamblers placing bets on the outcome of a multi-player, high stakes tournament of Russian roulette. Directed by newcomer Gela Babluani, 13 TZAMETI is a winner-take-all thriller, where an unfortunate young man is transformed into Contestant #13 with no way out save his luck. Cronicas:John Leguizamo stars as Manolo Bonilla, a tabloid TV reporter who traveled from Miami with his news crew on the trail of a story about a serial killer striking a small town in Ecuador. Convinced this story could be the ‘big one’ that makes him a network star, he is willing to bend the rules to get the facts. But the closer he gets to uncovering the truth, the more he finds his carefully planned story spinning dangerously out of control. Soon, Bonilla and his crew find themselves at the center of a frightening situation where even the best intentions can backfire. Demonlover:demonlover is Olivier Assayas’ breathtaking vision of our spectacle-driven modern global society. On the surface, the film follows Diane (Connie Nielsen) who works for VolfGroup, a hugely powerful conglomerate that is negotiating the acquisition of TokyoAnimé, whose revolutionary [**]ographic 3-D manga is set to annihilate the competition in an extraordinarily lucrative market. Two companies are battling for exclusive rights to Volf’s new images on the Web: Magnatronics and Demonlover. Magnatronics has recruited Diane to torpedo Demonlover from within and she finds a connection with the latter company and an interactive torture Web site known as “The Hellfire Club.” However, Diane is soon challenged every step of the way by her amoral colleague (Charles Berling), an antagonistic and mysterious assistant (Chloe Sevigny) and an outspoken, pot-smoking American executive (Gina Gershon). Brilliantly shot by Denis Lenoir, the film captures a culture spiraling out of control in which reality is posited as a video game and where every twist escalates the film to a new level. Memories of Murder:Based on the true story of South Korea’s first serial killer… when women start turning up dead in a small town in South Korea in 1986, two reluctantly-partnered cops resolve to bring him to justice. But it was a very different world then, and without DNA testing or modern forensics the investigators are forced to rely mainly on intuition and brute force. At times both touching and hilarious, MEMORIES OF MURDER is a riveting tale of a mysterious killer and the ceaseless pressure on those charged with stopping his rampage.
