Every bit as good as the original!
Where to even begin with this one...Basically take everything that you loved about the original Reanimator, that is Herbert West, the gore, the nudes, and the experimentations on corpses, and multiply it by a hundred! Jeffrey Combs and Bruce Abbott reprise their roles as Dr. Herbert West and Dr. Dan Cain respectively in this sequel that manages to be even more over the top than it's predacessor, Bride of Reanimator. The main focus of this one, as established in the opening scene, is that the duo has moved past reanimating dead subjects and are now interested in creating new life altogether.
Since creating new life has become as possibility for Herbert, he decides to put together a woman with the deceased Meg's heart, which Dan promptly agrees to with Meg having been his girlfriend when she was alive. The film seems to be divided up amongst three sub plots: The first involving Herbert harvesting lady parts from the hospital for their reanimated woman. The second involves Dr. Hill's decapitated head returning to life and plotting his revenge on Herbert, and the third involves a persistent detective that is dead set on busting Herbert for the stolen body parts as well as the whole "Miskatonic Massacre" (the events of the previous film). At the climax, these sub plots finally come together in an absurdly gory and campy conclusion that I'd be best off not even trying to describe here, (It incorporates a severed head with bat wings to give you an idea).
Bride of Reanimator features loads of of gore effects including everything from good old fashioned makeup, to stop motion effects, and even a bit of CGI (Which isn't too bad for 1989 either!). Combs and Abbott give performances just as memorable if not more so than the first one here, although the entire cast is phenomenal for the type of movie we're dealing with here. The dark comedy is much more apparent this time around giving the film a lighter and more comical mood than the original despite the fact that it's much gorier. Once again all the elements of Reanimator are here and better than ever, even that nifty theme song is reprised sans the cheesy 80' drums, which makes it even better in my opinion. Overall if you're a fan of gore and campy horror, Bride of Reanimator is essential viewing, I couldn't recommend it more.

A bride with guts............
Seen this on cable years back. Not bad for a sequal. Great freakish effects, Jeffrey Combs acting is always good. This version has not been release a dozen of times, like the first one.

Great movie, mediocre DVD
Now as much as I love this movie, I'd have to say that the DVD itself is pretty bland, that's where the 2 star rating comes in. As for the movie, I'd give it 9/10, though I actually liked it better than the first one. It's kinda better than Beyond (which was somewhat of a dissapointment). Anyway, onto the DVD, it looks like it was sourced from an old Vestron VHS and it's also the R-Rated version. God I wish I'd gotten that OOP Special Edition. Though the R-Rated version is still pretty gory ;)
Recommended, but try to find the OOP SE

Perfect sequel.
Herbert West (Jeff Comb's) and Dr. Dan Cain (Bruce Abbot) are back and up to their old trick's, but not only can they resurrect the dead............they can creat new life!!!!!!! Bwhahahahahahahh!!!!!
What I really love about this sequel is that it has more of a 'Frankenstein' vibe, because it does'nt take place at a medical school like the original film, it take's place Herbert West's own lab (right next to a cemetary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Yeah that's right, a [..........] cemetary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ton's of special effect's on display here. It start's off with them re-animating their own little "pet's". It has some really great stop-motion animation (some of the best I've seen) and plenty of gore, nudity, zombie's, dismemberment, perversion, and disembowelment to please any gorehound.
This is horror/comedy done right, and while this has a little more comedy than the original film, it has a great sense of humor with a slap-stick vibe, and is extremely funny.
This is an awesome sequel to an already perfect movie. I loved every minute of it, and nearly had an orgasm watching it. The original Re-Animater is one of my favorite flick's of all time and even though this is not directed by Stuart Gordon, Brian Yuzna does a great job and is a very underrated director. HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

Underrated sequel
When going into Bride of Re-Animator, you have to accept a few facts. Stuart Gordon is not at the helm here (replaced by the series' producer Brian Yuzna), and much of the horriffic moments of the original film are absent as well. What you get instead is a pretty enjoyable, and pretty gross, sequel to the late 80's classic that is doesn't try to outdo the original. The film picks up months after the events of the first film, with Dr. Herbert West (the great Jeffrey Combs) and Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott) still performing their experiments in bringing back the dead, and soon enough, plan to bring back Dan's dead girlfriend Meg using various body parts harvested from the morgue. Standing in their way though is a shady cop (Claude Earl Jones) who has a special interest in their work, and the return of the beheaded Dr. Carl Hill (David Gale) who has a score to settle with Dr. West. Featuring some great makeup and gore effects courtesy of Screaming Mad George and KNB Effects, Bride of Re-Animator features some imaginitive effects for the low budget it has, but what ultimately hurts the film is some non-sensical leaps in logic, plot holes, and some inconsistencies with the events of the first film. Despite all that though, Bride of Re-Animator is an underrated sequel to a splatter classic, and if you enjoyed the first film in the very least, this first sequel is worth a look.
