    Jesus Christ kicks vampire tail

Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter is hilarious! However, for those conservative Christians out there, you will not find it amusing and maybe even offensive. On the other hand, I am a Christian and I laughed throughout the entire movie!

    Funky Hilarious Sacrilegious

As a religious person, I can truly say that this is movie is sacrilegious, and that at one point in this B-movie my mouth dropped open during the music. However, if you're not the kind of person who flings him or herself into an angry rage when your religion is slightly made fun of, then you, like I, will find this entertaining and hilarious, in a kind of "why am I watching this" way. Anyway it's called "Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter", with a title like that it doesn't really seem like a movie you'd buy for your Grandma for Christmas. Please note: it portrays Jesus not being Jewish, but, Christian.

    Disappointing at Best

There are already some honest reviews about the acting/effects/etc. so I will approach this review from a different angle.

I had hopes of a very good B-Movie, which is why I purchased the movie at a very cheap price (fortunately). I am a Christian, but the title didn't automatically equal blasphemy. In fact, the only place where the "red flags" went up was at the very end when the script writer decided to give his interpretation of who Jesus was... a man who said some great things to live by, but but not the Son of God (my interpretation of the actual words spoken).

That statement at the end could have been overlooked if the rest of the product would have been of some 'B' quality. ALthough the writer had an idea of what Jesus would have been capable of doing, the writer showed no ability of having a Jesus who was complex and cohesive.

The movie idea was very promising, but it didn't even come close to the expectations of mine.

This film could have been WAY better

I was under the impression that this was a movie with an actual budget. It's not. I realize that this was my mistake for not researching a film before I buy it, but many of my friends commented on how funny this film was. They had made it seem like it was something like a combination of Bubba Ho-Tep and Kentucky Fried Movie.

So it wasn't quite the quality of the film I expected it would be. I still enjoyed it. This is a film that must have been made by college students in 2002. All the sound you hear is re-dubbed and at times the camerawork is sloppy. This appears to have been shot with Super 8 film. Is it funny? Yes it is, very much so. Is it consistently funny? No. You will only laugh every once and a while and will frequently find yourself bored; but if you watch this film with friends you will then able to poke fun at it. Now the fact that its low budget isn't what turns me off from this film, I too am a college student majoring in film and I plan to make films similar to this rather soon, but I plan to do a better job of it. If I were to recommend a similar (and better) film instead, I would say the movie The Dead Next Door (though that one isn't intentionally funny for the most part).

Granted, Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter has the occasional gut-bursting laugh, but the frequency is too low. There are also several scenes that should have been cut before they were ever filmed. The prime example of this is the musical scene in the beginning. Not only is the song horrible and not funny, it just looks and sounds awful and awkward because it's dubbed! That musical bit falls flat on its face! The second idea that I felt was bad was that Jesus shaves his trademark hair and beard. Now I think it is a pretty funny idea, but it happens almost IMMEDIATELY into the film. What results is that we now have a Jesus that doesn't look like Jesus, which actually leads to the audience forgetting he's Jesus! Then whenever some kind of a miracle occurs, the viewers have to think themselves "Oh, that right. He's Jesus." It's a shame that a film with so much potential, turned out to be executed so poorly.

As for the special features, they do nothing to enhance the film as they are of excessively poor cube-like quality. I would have given this film 3 stars had I not been totally enraged by the fact that it is way overpriced. This is a $10 DVD at best and they want double that? I was suckered into getting this move because of the hype. I urge you, do not make the same mistake that I did. If you really want to see this film, get a used and MUCH cheaper copy of it (try aiming for as low as possible) or better yet, rent it. You will feel cheated and outraged if you pay the full $20. I hope this helped.
