Review of I Know What You Did Last Summer
- As they celebrate their high school graduation, four friends are involved in a hit-and-run accident when their car hits--and apparently kills--a pedestrian on an isolated roadway. They dispose of the body and vow to keep the incident a secret, but a year later somebody starts sending them letters bearing the warning "I Know What You Did Last Summer." At that point the panicked foursome becomes the target of an elusive serial killer whose disguise consists of a fisherman's slicker and a lethal ice hook. Part mystery and part slasher flick, this thriller was heavily hyped as a follow-up to Scream by screenwriter Kevin Williamson (who later created the TV series Dawson's Creek), and like Scream it's a showcase for a teenage cast including Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sarah Michelle Gellar. And while this shocker isn't as inspired as Scream, it's guaranteed to give its target audience a few good thrills as it dives toward a routine climax of mayhem and murder. Based (rather loosely) on the popular novel by Lois Duncan. --Jeff Shannon

I Know What You Did Last Summer Review
This film starts fairly well, but then it becomes another routine slasher. I suppose if something is worth doing in Hollywood, it's worth overdoing. The best thing about this movie is John Debney's suspenseful score, which makes the movie watchable. The enhanced 2.35:1 DVD is of high quality.

Dull at times, but saved by Sarah Michelle Gellar
This movie is basically a retreading of familiar ground, and has the same premise as most other slasher movies: there is a crazed killer on the loose and a group of friends are being bumped off one by one. The story is rather contrived and involves four friends (Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillipe) running over a man during a drunken night of partying. However, instead of doing the right thing and informing the police of what happened, they decide to cover it up and forget the entire event. Of course, as is usual in this genre, bad things follow. The member of the cast who performs best (though it isn't hard to compete with Freddie Prinze Jr or Jennifer Love Hewitt) is Sarah Michelle Gellar, who portrays Helen, the token blonde who is terrorised the most. Overall, three stars. It's nowhere near as witty and scary as Scream, but there are a few creepy moments. See if you like Buffy star Sarah, slasher movies, or films about a guy with a big hook.

I had to work all last summer, just so you know!
Not a bad film, it tries to bring about a nostalgia to it in terms of old skool teen screamer movies. The cast is actually really good but the whole raincoat guy with the hook thing was a bit much. I guess the whole point was to bring about the urban legend and make it a reality within this film.
It is good and so is the second one but I just got finished watching the last one of this trilogy and it is retarded. None of the original cast is there and people get really dumb. I mean, like the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre you know, there is 20 miles of open land all around and some guy with a limp is chasing you so you run around a house three times? Well I don't mean to knock TCM in this review because it had some good parts. I just hope they do not let Rob Zombie direct "I think we are screwed this summer" because it would really cause me to hurl. Jennifer Love Hewitt is in this and it was after she dumped Carson Daly, I like the way she said he was a jerk, she did not use that language but you know what I am saying, I believe in treating people with respect and the fact Daly did not realize what he had was typical of his type. Well have fun out there in TVland and enjoy finding out what happens to these kiddies that summer!

Surprisingly good.
I Know What You Did Last Summer is probably most known as the movie that launched the acting careers of 4 young Hollywood actors. Most don't consider this movie to be at all scary. However, I don't find it as bad as others do.
So what's this movie about? It starts out with a group of friends who accidentally hit a pedestrian and decide to dispose of the body. They vow to keep it a secret but they learn a year later that they weren't the only ones who know what happened. A serial killer is out to get them and the rest of the movie has the cast running away from the fish hook-wielding psycho.
What's to like about this movie? Although I didn't find the killer to be scary whatsoever, the writers did a great job in building suspense and keeping you on the edge of your seat in anticipation. This is what truly makes a great scary movie. Furthermore, all along, this movie has you guessing and reguessing the identity of the killer. The ending is quite interesting and it will have you biting your nails when everything is uncovered.
And what's not to like? Look, this movie was released in 1997, 10 years ago. The movie industry obviously has come out with better storylines and better technology-related ideas since this movie came out. I don't think the storyline is unique whatsoever. I don't think the acting is all that great. I DO consider this film to be a sort of classic "scary" movie and at the time of its release, it scared the bejeezus out of people. Even to this day, I still enjoy watching it with the knowledge that it's more real than horror movies that have been recently released.
Bottom line, if I could, I would have given this movie 3.5 stars rather than 4. It's pretty good considering it came out 10 years ago. People looking for a good scare will enjoy this film.

jeee wizzz this film is trite and trivial: A ' 0' Star
The acting is beyond laughable. I would assume the majority of the individuals who shelled out 10.00 to see this in the theatres and made it gross the amount of loot it did, are the same ones who live in towns like Pawtucket, Rhode Island and New Bedford, MA and Hampton Beach, NH.
oh dear, truly, absolutely, without any question whatsoever: this is a total joke. Grody and simply unbearable.
