Review of Jeepers Creepers 2 (Special Edition)

  • When their bus is crippled on the side of a deserted road a team of high school athletes discover an opponent they cannot defeat and may not survive. Staring hungrily at them through the school bus windows the Creeper returns again and again. But when the teammates discover that it s selective about whom it attacks it will test their ability to stick together as the insatiable menace tries to tear them apart!System Requirements: Running Time 104 MinFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: HORROR Rating: R UPC: 027616901651 Manufacturer No: 1005935
    Product Description
  • Despite the usual symptoms of sequelitis, Jeepers Creepers 2 delivers the goods for those who enjoyed the 2001 original--a group large enough to propel this sequel to a record-setting opening in August 2003. While establishing the flesh-eating "Creeper" as a new horror icon with frantic action and more elaborate special effects, writer-director Victor Salva follows the traditional formula, dispensing with plot almost altogether and focusing entirely on threat, menace, mayhem, and gore. That's likely to disappoint horror fans hoping for a more revealing exploration of the Creeper's origins (room for another sequel, perhaps?), and by trapping nondescript teens in a school bus attacked by the Creeper, Salva severely limits the movie's overall potential. Still, there's something to be said for straightforward shocks, and Jeepers Creepers 2 delivers enough of them to justify its profitable existence. --Jeff Shannon

    Jeepers Creepers

I've read some reviews on the Creepers movies, bad reviews, and I gotta say I don't understand what these people want out of a horror movie! Reality? I don't think that's even possible. I loved these two movies and I'll be right there for the third, money in hand, waiting in line for a ticket. This was a great movie to just sit back in the dark with a large bowl of popcorn and enjoy. It's not for someone who is looking for some deep, intellectual, that could really happen, film.

    JUST WHAT I EXPECTED...AND ENJOYED

It seems so often these days that we Hollywood has gotten lazy and decided that the best way to make a movie is to take an original flick and turn it into a franchise. Yes, that's the word they use...franchise. Movies have become like McDonalds, bland and tasteless yet flocked to by the masses ready to consume something they are familiar with rather than taste a new treat. That being said, there are occasions when those morsels turn out to be not too bad. Perhaps they aren't steak but they do offer a bit of meat.

JEEPERS CREEPERS 2 is exactly that. A second film in what could turn out to be an ongoing series. The first film introduced us to this creature, brought forth every 23 years for 23 days to feast on the living, harvesting bodies and body parts along its gruesome way. While the first movie offered much more suspense with few glimpses of the creature until near the end, this one jumps in from the get go. And why not? The suspense from the first film was lost when we finally saw the creature. So rather than remake that movie or even try, this one goes for the creature feature genre.

It begins with a young boy checking out the scarecrows in his father's field. As he nears the last, he catches its head turning to look at him. Afraid but curious, he makes his way to the scarecrow only to realize too late that this is no straw man. Running and screaming towards the barn, the creature swoops down upon the boy. While his father and brother try and save him, they watch helplessly as he is flown off in the creature's talons.

Cut to a busload of high school jocks celebrating their victory at state. Some cheer and rant, some sleep and one broods over the fact he felt HE was the reason they got there and he didn't get enough attention. Toss in some racist comments and this is a bus ready to explode if the ride lasts too long.

When a tire is blown on the bus, the team gets out and waits to be told what to do next. The driver and coaches check it out and find an unusual four pointed weapon embedded in the tire. Made of (at least we know) four long, sharp teeth and welded together, it was tossed by the creature to stop the bus. Limping along on the remaining tires, the bus heads out again.

Now dark, the bus loses another tire the same way. Alert and wary, the driver and coaches begin the task of setting up flares. And that's when the attacks begin. Startled and unsure of what happened, the team sees their coach lifted off the ground and soaring into the darkened skies. One by one these authority figures are gone leaving the teens to fend for themselves. And the disputes eluded to earlier come out full force as they try to decide what to do.

When the creature reveals itself to the team, apparently sizing up just which ones it wants for victims, the struggle for survival begins as they banter back and forth about who should leave the bus and who should stay. Its attacks begin and the teens fight back, eventually leaving the bus. And when they do that, the farmer from the beginning of the film shows with a unique weapon he's made just for this creature.

I won't reveal more and will say that this movie did provide a few scary moments. The creature is good and gory, slimy as all get out and is an imposing figure. If you let your imagination run free, you are filled with horror contemplating what it would be like to have this thing flying down out of the night sky with its sights set on you.

The special effects are gross and effective, just the type of thing horror fans have come to expect. The creature is believable in it's appearance and not something you'd want to meet in a dark alley.

The acting may not be Oscar caliber, but is it ever in any horror movie ever made? Okay forget THE EXORCIST. I'm talking about teen horror flicks. These actors are believable in their roles and you like and dislike each as it is intended. And Ray Wise as the vengeful farmer does a fantastic job. Long overlooked (and a stand out in the TV series TWIN PEAKS) Wise makes the role his.

So what if this movie is predictable? So what if it's a sequel? So what if it uses bits and pieces of horror flicks from years gone by? It still all comes together and works. And isn't that the point of a movie like this? So sit back, munch that popcorn and drink your Coke making sure not to toss it in the air at the scary parts. This is a movie monster that does what you expect and does it well.

Jeepers Creepers, where'd you get that...head!

The 23 days are almost over, and the Creeper is not done feeding. Stalking the farmland, it takes just about anyone it can find alone. But, when it finds a busload of high schoolers heading home from the Big Game, it begins to look like feasting time. But, the Creeper has made an enemy, Jack Taggart, Sr., who wants payback for the loss of his son. Can Taggart defeat the Creeper? I mean, while there are still some students left?

OK, I am not a huge horror fan, and most of the movies leave me cold. But, I love Jeepers Creepers 2! I liked the monster, who is horrifying and can take a licking and keep on handing out punishment. I mean, the punishment this creature takes is horrifying, even as he keeps coming back. And, I loved Taggart, who does not just hide in a hole like a rabbit, but determines to stand up and be a man, no matter the cost. And, I liked the kids, who provide the horror and adventure as they struggle to survive, reacting in their own different and believable ways.

Yeah, if you knew me, you would be surprised that I like this movie. I don't just like it, I love it, and I highly recommend it! Is there going to be a Jeepers Creepers 3? I hope so!!

    Curse of the Sequels

After a nice first film this series has died very quickly after this complete waste of time and money. The whole thing is really very flat and unwatchable

Worse than the original, needs improvement

After watching the original Jeepers Creepers and knowing the potential it could have had, I decided to watch the second movie in hopes that the previous movie's mistakes would be corrected. Unfortunately, I was wrong.

So what's this movie about? A group of kids are on a bus presumably coming from or going to a sports function. The bus gets a flat tire and that's when the chaos begins. Ultimately, they learn that there's a monster outside the bus and he's carefully choosing which kids to take. And once he has chosen his prey, there's no stopping him. The rest of the movie has the kids finding a way to survive.

Let's talk about the positives first. First, if you're the type of person that thinks "monsters" are scary (I'm not one of those people), I'd say that the monster in Jeepers Creepers is fairly "scary" looking. Second, although the storyline is nothing special, the fact that the kids can do nothing to prevent their death once the monster chooses them is rather creepy and in some ways it aids the movement of the movie in general.

And now for the negatives. Without giving too much away, after the bus scene is over, the movie goes downhill. There's no buildup/climax. The supposed "scary" parts of the film did nothing to instill fear in me. Rather, I was completely bored and waiting for something, ANYTHING that would potentially spice up the movie a bit. To make matters worse, the vulnerable, yet appetizing characters that are so typical in scary movies make me want to vomit. There's only so much I can take with the complete overuse of profanity and sexual innuendo. The only thing this did was make me dislike the characters and scream at the screen "Just kill them already!"

If you liked the first Jeepers Creepers, you might like the second movie. If you didn't like the first one, I'd stay far, far away from Jeepers Creepers 2.
