Review of The Suffering

The Suffering is unlike Silent Hill and Resident Evil in game play. The Suffering is more like a horror-themed action game with the only game out right now similar in game play is BloodRayne.

The games so called protagonist is a man named Torque who was imprisoned for killing his family. The prison becomes overrun by monsters. You will still have some regular human prisoners and guards that will need your help to free them from these monsters, if you wish to help them or just waste them for the fun of it. Depending on your actions, you will get up to three different endings.

Torque is not all there himself. He is more like a raging time bomb. When his rage meter fills up, he can change into an enormous beast to cream your enemies. As a human, you get the usual guns and grenades for melee combat. Puzzles are more realistic then in other games in the same basic genre. Instead of the normal solving puzzles to unlock the key; you will be putting out fires and figuring out how to stop the toxic gas that is leaking into the room before you grow an extra limb and die.

The different enemies you fight are pretty slim but the characters are impressive. On the whole, the game has pretty decent visuals and all together brings forth a good dark environment to go crazy and waste all. The sound within the game adds a lot of ambience and I recommend playing this game with a good speaker system.

The Suffering is all together a good game but it is not for everyone. This game would not be classified as “scary,” it is more gory in nature. Horror fans should definitely give this game a try. The game is extremely easy in default difficulty and can be beaten in 12 hours.
