Review of Silent Hill 3

The psychological thriller known as Silent Hill was a hit when it was first released on PlayStation a few years ago. Though many people labeled it as a Resident Evil clone, but, in truth these two could not be further apart and Silent Hill 3 is no different.

Silent Hill 3 will creep you out with its dark and gritty atmosphere. The graphics have been slightly improved over S. H. 2. The lighting effects are some of the best I've ever seen. It is amazing how they pulled it off. The sound is really what made it unique. Imagine walking in to a hallway dark, musty, and blood spilled everywhere, suddenly you hear a little girl weeping but you don't know where it's coming from. This game really creeped me out. With great sound and visuals, you don't always have a great game, you also need game play. This is where S. H. 3 really packs a punch. S. H. 3 contains faster battles which also mean faster monsters. Previous chapters were fairly slow in battle and I'm glad they improved on it. The puzzles are very unique, some of the most original puzzles in any game, horror or not. The puzzles give you a chance to think on instinct. And S. H. 3 you have to do things like use a coat hanger to pull down a ladder while being chased by undiscovered monsters.

The story was really great. It continues the story of the original Silent Hill rather than the second. Heather is the main character in this game. She is the daughter of the main character in the original Silent Hill. The game starts off in the Silent Hill amusement park. You walk through it and reach the roller coaster track and... Pow! You're run over by the roller coaster and poof! You wake up in a diner at the mall (it was all a dream or was it to?). Heather goes to the payphone to make a call to her father. A man in a hat and an overcoat asks Heather some questions but she doesn't answer. She doesn't trust him. She runs to the ladies room, escapes through the window into an alleyway. At the end of alley there is a door. She goes through. The mall has changed. It is infested with zombies and monsters and covered in complete darkness. This is where the real fun begins and the creepiness just keeps on coming. This is a game no horror should be without.
