Review of Final Fantasy X-2

After years of fresh new story lines in every Final Fantasy title, Square-Enix has decided to revisit a Final Fantasy title for the first time. This in my opinion has to be the weirdest FF title yet. There really is no serious threat to the world like every other Final Fantasy and all 3 playable characters are females. Yuna and Rikku are the only characters that return along with a newcomer Paine, though you can visit some of the old characters as well. The game takes place just 2 years after FFX. Yuna is no longer a summoner and has traded her staff for short shorts, a long ponytail and 2 handguns. She has joined her cousin Rikku as a group of sphere hunters known as the Gullwings. Spira is really in no danger but it is going through some political conflict. Well I don't want to go into details for the storyline. I know many of you don't like spoilers.

The game play is very different because it has a mission based system rather then a straight storyline like before. The ATB (Active Time Battle) has been brought back a long with the job system from Final Fantasy V. Battles are much faster than before, you have to act fast or enemies will attack you. The job system is what really had me hooked. There was such a variety of abilities and costumes to level up. The graphics were mainly the same with a few extra tweaks (added texture, improved face models). But that does not mean they were bad on any terms.

Final Fantasy X-2 was fun while it lasted but it still left me with some unanswered questions that I hoped would be answered but the game play made up for it. If you have not played FFX then I suggest you play first or you will be lost. With everything aside this was a solid effort but falls short of other Final Fantasy titles.
