 I think its different for everyone. Depending on what your core fears are. For me its movies that represent the feelings of hopelessness and how a seemingly benign situation can explode into chaos before you can actually comprehend whats going on. Also the ends that people will go to to survive...and actually having their mind snap in the process.

At a certain point horror movies stop bein scary and just become fun. Thats all I require in a movie. If theres a few jump scares, some characters that are enjoyable, and a killer/monster/threat thats believable, I'll call it a good horror movie.

A good horror movie's going to have a great storyline that's not too corny, charaters that you can connect with and GREAT effects.
