Here is great bio of the "Grim Reaper" that I found! (very informative)
In today's American society, many individuals use the image and symbolism affiliated with the Grim Reaper without actually knowing its origin. Though
the Reaper symbolized death in the middle ages, there is much more to his lore than what many are aware of. Our take on this fictitious figure is both
comedic and sinister. We tend to use him in car commercials, as a Halloween costume, and even in cartoons. There are countless abstract references to
him in contemporary music and poetry as well. Where exactly did this image come from and what makes him as relevant today as he has been for
centuries?
Our earliest records of the Reaper date back to Greek civilization and the mythology they created to explain things without the use of rationale.
Mythology seems trivial to us now, but it was their religion, much like Christianity, Islam, or Judaism today. There was a pantheon of gods and the
mightiest of all was Zeus. His father, according to myth, was named Kronos. He was a part of a group of beings called Titans that preceded Greek gods
in the lineage of mythology.
Gaia (Earth) and Uranus (Heaven) were Kronos' parents. Uranus was fearful of all his children including Kronos and kept them constrained inside Gaia.
Gaia wished to free her children and decided to give Kronos a sickle. With this sickle Kronos eventually castrated his father and bled him to death.
Knowing how he had killed his father, once Kronos had children of his own, he feared his fate would be the same. As each child was born he swallowed
them one by one. The only one to deceive Kronos was Zeus who eventually figured out a way to free his siblings from the belly of his father. Zeus,
with the help of his siblings fought the Titans and overthrew them. From ancient folklore and other anthropological sources it is believed that Kronos
was a harvest god worshipped by a culture before the Greeks. It is understood that his sickle was used in harvesting grain. The aforementioned story
of Zeus overthrowing Kronos is supposed to represent the Greeks overthrow of the culture that worshipped Kronos.
Harvest was also associated with death because it signaled the end of the growing season and the beginning of Winter. Time devouring all things was
represented poetically by Kronos eating his own children. It was the Greeks very dramatic way of saying nothing lasts forever. Kronos was the
personification of time, which is what the word means. Hence, such words as chronology or chronicles.
The Romans identified their god Saturn with Kronos, or Cronus. A god of agriculture, Saturn, the Sower was also identified with time. One could easily
see how latter civilizations adapted and built their gods and beliefs from former civilizations. Three Greek words were related to each other.
Chronus, meaning "time", Cronus, the god of harvest before the Greek gods took over and corone, meaning "crow". This is why the crow is synonymous
with death as well. Crows are known to eat rotting corpses and known to go after grain. This is undoubtedly why even today we associate this bird with
the Grim Reaper. The crow can also sometimes be found in drawings of Father Time, which is a modern concept.
The relations and similarities are uncanny and indisputable. The Grim Reaper wielding a sickle and, at times, an hourglass is directly derived from
Kronos. One must understand how important grain was to these ancient civilizations. How horrible the thought of some mystic creature with the power to
swipe away their whole harvest with a swift swing of the mighty sickle. Not to mention the flock of famished crows, which would accompany such a
terrible figure. It undoubtedly symbolized death in an extremely effective way. Nowadays many use this dark character to convey an image of death and
maliciousness. Though the Grim Reaper poses no real threat to our life, his legacy, which has been handed down from generation to generation for
centuries, has instilled in us all the fear we need to ensure the desired effect. Hopefully, this essay aided you in understanding the significance of
such a relevant myth.

Grim is just doing his job. People have to die otherwise the earth would have way to many people on it. Plus it'd be like a
living hell on earth.

TheRedDeath: Its a good essay written by Faust. However it does not explain the following:
Its explained where it started. But in modern time people have reported see him. It does not say if he is reel of imaginary.

I know there have been reports and such. I didnt say he wasn't real. I would just like to know if anyone can actually find information about actual
sitings. Because you can't. I dont just mean people seeing death. Im trying to find some king of evidence that beings of such intense feeling are
real. I have found no real proof that historical beings such as this are real.
As the report above kindly provided by RedDeath says. The Grim Reaper came from many beings. Death was seen the early as having no food.
Kronos and saturn where gods of agriculture, having no crops meant death to many people, the scurge of the crops was the crow. The scithe was an
agricutural tool and was the sybols of the two gods named above. And kronos was also named as the father of time or the god of time. And the dark
figure of death is how the god Hel was described. She was a barbarian god. The greeks ancestors where from babrian mythology.
It all links. Hel gave Grims appearance. Kronos was the god of time giveing the hour glass or clock which is seen in modern pictures. Kronos and
Saturn give the scithe and the crows as they were the enemies of farmers.
This shows that perhap Grim is just the modern form of the god of agriculture. Does it show if he is real or not???? You tell me!!
God, demons, angels: all things supernatural, knowledge is key to knowing the world.
