Review of Primal Heat (Primes Series, Book 5)

  • Can a heroic vampire protect his clan from danger -- and save himself from burning desire?

As Prime of his vampire Family, Mathias Bridger is sworn to protect his own kind at any cost -- but years of acting as a fierce guardian of his people have left him yearning for more out of life. His chance comes in the form of Phillipa Elliot, the beautiful police officer whose allure hasn't dimmed in the two years since they had a brief, torrid affair. And though she's involved with someone else now, Phillipa can't deny the feeling that Matt is her destiny.

When the Family comes under attack from fanatical vampire hunters, Matt uncovers treachery that shatters his world. So how can he possibly invite Phillipa into it? Fighting to protect his kin, he tries to push Phillipa away to the safety of her mortal life -- but he aches for her, and his will is no match for the flames of their all-consuming passion. . . .

    Good intentions but need more!!!

I have read Susan Sizemore's book but this one had me a little frustrated. When I read, I enjoy a book that flows well, and I am able to get into it. With this book, I had to try to keep it with the Sizemore's train of thought. I like the main characters, Philipa & Mathias but from the beginning it moved entirely too quickly for me. I love for characters to build a bond before jumping right into sex. Yes, it happens but I need more when reading.

I would wait and read the next novel when it comes out.

    I liked it

I thought the book was good, not the best. I thought Sizemore did a good job with her plot as far as the bankrobbries and plotting vampires were concerned. I do understand the complaints of the other reviewers--she does not explain the vampire world in this book, you would have had to pick that up from a previous novel. There were some explainations in the storyline as far as looks and abilities go, but there were not glaringly obvious. I can only assume the other reviewer was not paying complete attention.

The story encompasses Philipa (Joe's cousin), who is a cop that had to quite due to her getting shot and later being diagnosed with diabetes. She's depressed and not quite sure what she plans to do with herself, but has not given up on police work. It's kind of sweet in a way that she finds the only "policeman" the vampire world has. I think if your a fan of Sizemore that you would enjoy this book. Otherwise I suggest you read her previous books in this series to aquaint yourself with the characters.

    It was great!!!

I really enjoyed the prior book dealing with Marc Cage---so this one was just great as it picked up where the other left off with Cage's cousin. There was plenty of suspense with a plot that keeps you guessing, romance and hot, sexual tension to make you keep turning those pages!

Steamy Though Not as Good as the In Laws

While for me I Thirst For You with Marc Cage & Joe Elliot has been the highlight book in this series, this tale of Cage's cousin and Joe's sister hooking up at the first couples wedding was still pretty good. It has a beter story line than a few of the other books in the series and it was more suspenseful. The bad guy was not glaringly obviouse for a change and the blending of several of the storylines and characters from this series was good. I don't know that this book could be considered a stand alone though as a first time reader of the series would probably be pretty confused.

The plot shapes out like this: Phillipa, Joe's older cop sister, and Matt Bridger, Cage's brit cousin who is the enforcement for the Family of vampires, hook up at Joe & Marcus's wedding. Matt knows that Philipa is his lifemate but he is afraid she will be targeted by his enemies and so runs away super quick.Flash forward 3 years. The happy Cage couple has just had their first child and it's time for the christening. Both Matt & Phillipa are back in town as godparents. But a psycho vamp has enlisted a few other supernatural friends and they are pulling heists in the same city. As a distraction to Matt the ringleader brainwashes a few Purist vampirehunters to target the baby and then Phillipa. Matt's werewolf buddy Mike, whom we met in Laurent's story is also in town after the baddy but stuck in doggy form. He may find salvation in an odd place though- a vampire magician who will be the subject of Ms. Sizemore's next book in the series.
