This story is about a new vampire named Pandora. Pandora is a strong independent woman who was born in ancient Rome in the times of the rain of Augustus Caesar. It tells of her attraction to mysticism. While also uncovering how she was forced out of her home by the Romans by penalty of death. She later falls for one very familiar vampire named Marius.

This book was rather good except for the occasional times when Anne Rice decides that every minute detail must be described in full. Certain things like details about clothes and the smells of the city are unimportant. This book is mostly on the romantic side and will be a bore to anyone other then those who take pleasure in history and weird vampire love stories.
