Review of Mona Lisa Craving (Monere: Children of the Moon, Book 3)

  • Dante, the warrior son of a healer, was cursed by the high priestess to endure a never-ending cycle of life and death, born and reborn into an ever-diminishing bloodline. Someone shares one of his past lives. Her name was Mona Lyria. Back then, on the moon in another world, she was his victim. Today, she is Mona Lisa, and this time, she is his savior. Dante's wish is to die by her hands to end his cursed existence, but she feels fate has given them both a second chance. For even stronger than her craving for blood is her craving for what every MonÂre female desires, and needs...to bear life. Now she has found her mate-but with this blessing could come a new curse under the shadow of a new moon.

    More like 3 1/2 stars.....

Trouble seems to find Mona Lisa, no matter where she goes. Mona Lisa is trying to settle into her new territory but she has a dark secret, one she has sworn to keep hidden from everyone. Her killing of Mona Louisa (see MONA LISA BLOSSOMING) has left her with some unexpected side effects, ones that could lead to her death if the other Monére find out. Prince Halcyon has offered Mona Lisa a solution, but how will the others react to the changes in Mona Lisa? Meanwhile, a new man has entered Mona Lisa's life and Dante has a secret of his own....

The series featuring the Monére is one best read in order. In particular, MONA LISA CRAVING builds on events that occurred in the previous books as well as in the two previously published short stories.

This series is very character driven as Mona Lisa has been the heart that drives the stories forward. MONA LISA CRAVING finds her a bit adrift and unsure, sometimes even quite hormonal. The relationship she develops with Dante is brutally dark, almost too dark, as I struggled with accepting the rough and dangerous passion that flares up between them. Mona Lisa seems determined to make every wrong or difficult choice she can in MONA LISA CRAVING. I missed Mona Lisa having such a strong heart as it seemed that she was near breaking in MONA LISA CRAVING. Perhaps, as in most series, MONA LISA CRAVING is that necessary transitional book to show the character's growth.

MONA LISA CRAVING takes a bit of a detour from some of the storylines that have been developing in the previous books. Many of the secondary characters I've come to love were not as visible in this story as Mona Lisa had to face some inner demons, ones she didn't even know she had. MONA LISA CRAVING will appeal to readers who just can't get enough of Mona Lisa and the dark world of the Monére despite lacking the depth of the previous books.

    Can you really do this?

Can you rip off the work of recent writers, mush them together into your own barely distinctive re-imagination and get published? Anne Bishop should get more than a tiny mention in the author acknowledgments, she should get a percentage of the profit. Same thing with Laurell K. Hamilton.

I read the three Mona Lisa books hoping that things would grow away from the obvious comparisons, but I get the same sense of outrage from all three.

    Mona Lisa Craving

Mona Lisa has always been different - first among humans and now among the Monère through an accident of birth. Right now, Mona Lisa has to find a way to successfully hide the unexpected side effects of killing Mona Louisa--demon-like cravings for blood--or the High Lord of Hell will order her death...Add to that, having to juggle all the men in her life and step gingerly around their feelings and Mona Lisa has her plate full. However, since it seems that Mona Lisa might be finally achieving a happy balance in her life, fate throws a wrench in her plans. Mona Lisa is kidnapped to help save a warrior, Dante, who murdered her in a previous life Life becomes even more complicated when Dante and his family join Mona Lisa's household and she has to fight the conflicting instincts of running away from Dante and wanting him in her bed. All this along with becoming mated to Halcyon, the High Prince of Hell, and Mona Lisa has enough going on in her life even without all the attendant politics of being a Monère Queen.

Mona Lisa Craving is an awesome book that will blow your socks, starting from the very first page. Sunny has done a masterful job in this third book of the Children of the Moon series. It will engross you and capture your imagination so completely that it will make you a die-hard fan of Sunny herself and of this series in particular. Mona Lisa is a flawed woman who is constantly struggling to stay on top of all the nuances of the Monère culture without losing the common sense that growing up among humans has given her. It is interesting to experience the emotional dance that Mona Lisa is involved in with Dante, who is the main love interest in this installment of the series. Dante is a tortured hero by any measurable means. This quality will make him endearing and hateful at the same time since it pits him against Mona Lisa while needing her to break the curse that tortures him. I must admit that I loved this book so much that halfway through the third chapter I immediately ordered the previous books in the series, which I haven't read. Mona Lisa Craving is fantastic book that will snare you and leave you eagerly waiting for the next book in the series. Do get yourself Mona Lisa Craving as its an action-packed book that is guaranteed to make you a fan of Sunny and the Children of the Moon series!

    Mona Lisa Craving

This was another great installment of the Children of the moon series.
I could not put this down until it was done and I do wish Sunny could write faster- "When is book 4 coming out"
I can only say that I loved it.

can't wait for the next one

A really good book but it would be better if there was a little more in it. It reads really quickly and could have been a short story rather than a solo book. This one didn't have as much in-depth as the previous Mona Lisa books, but I still enjoyed it and recommend it to other fans. I look forward to more Mona Lisa books and anything else this author writes.
