Universal Studios has acquired the rights to the Stephen Kings The Dark Tower. Universal Studios has a track record for bending too many ideas away from the original vision of whatever they acquire. Ron Howard will be directing so The Dark Tower should have some good footing.

Javier Bardem is close to sealing the deal to play gunslinger Roland Deschain in the mammoth adaptation of the Stephen Kings 7-novel series, The Dark Tower, that will span three movies and a limited run TV series in between each film, according to sources. Perfect casting. There’s a lot to be excited for.

Production will begin this September on the first film. Ron Howard has confirmed that he will direct the first TV segment as well.

Javier Bardem would play the famous gunslinger Roland Deschain, who soon becomes humanity’s last hope to save civilization as he hits the road to find the Dark Tower, encountering characters, good and bad, in a world that takes us back to a crazy old wild west mixed with that Stephen King goodness.
